Injuries inflicted by another person with intent to injure or kill, by any meansDeaths related to injury and violence include deaths such as those due to motor vehicle crashes, unintentional drug overdoses, falls, suicides, or homicides. Nationally, between 2007 and 2017, the death rate from all injuries, regardless of intent, increased by 19.8%, from 59.7 to 71.5 deaths per 100,000 population (age adjusted). Between 2007 and 2017, the change in the homicide rate, which is included in the all-injury death rate, was not statistically significant (6.1 per 100,000 in 2007 and 6.2 per 100,000 in 2017, age adjusted). In 2017, several population groups had lower rates of deaths from all injuries and homicide than their counterparts, including the Asian or Pacific Islander population and women. While those residing in metropolitan areas had a lower rate of all injury deaths, they had a higher rate of homicide than those living in non-metropolitan areas.
In 2021, the age-adjusted rate per 100,000 population of Deaths From Homicide (All) in Alachua County was 11.0 compared to Florida at 7.3. Since the oldest age at death varies, an ending age of 999 is used to retrieve all records up to and including the oldest age.
