Falls are a leading cause of injury-related death among adults age 65 and older, and the age-adjusted rate of fall death is increasing. In addition to deaths and injuries, as well as the costs associated with them, falls can have many negative consequences for older adults, including fear of falling again, rorced relocation from the home, loss of independence and stress in the family. By reducing chances of a fall, older adults can stay independent and have an increased quality of life.
