Families Below Poverty Level With Related Children (Aged 0-17 Years) (Census ACS)

The percentage of families with children under 18 whose combined income from all family members age 15 or older is below the federal poverty level.

Poverty is a social determinant of health. Families with incomes below the poverty level cannot provide the same opportunities for their children that more affluent families can afford. Children from low income families have many obstacles to overcome to break the cycle of poverty in their generation.

  • Data displayed reflect the American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the year selected.
  • 2000 rates are obtained from the Census long form sample. Starting with 2009, rates are from the American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates. Both data sources incorporate design differences, and must be compared with caution. ACS estimates are less precise than the Census long form, but provide data completeness and an increase in sample coverage.
